Our Story
1934 - Members of Heather's church and cricket team looked for a pastime during the long winter months. The Storer brothers ignited the idea of establishing a football team among cricket enthusiasts. A gathering took place at Mr Bill Storer's residence, leading to the formation of Heather St. John's Football Club.
1939 - The good times were cut short at the outbreak of World War II, players dispersed due to the war effort.
1949 – Ten years later born again from the ashes of the war, the club made its debut in the Coalville & District League, playing on council-owned grounds on Swepstone Road.
1955/1956 - The team's prowess couldn't be contained in Division Two, and they clinched promotion to Division One, setting the stage for a remarkable journey.
1956/1957 - With an unstoppable spirit, the club secured its first Division One title.
1965/1971 - A golden era unfolded as the club dominated, claiming the league championship title three times.
1973 - Ascending to Division Two of the Leicester & District League, the club swiftly climbed to Division One, only to experience the rollercoaster ride of success and relegation, earning them the title of a yo-yo club.
1980’s - Promoted, relegated, and promoted again in quick succession, the club embraced its yo-yo club reputation with resilience and determination.
1993 – In need of more space, the club seized the opportunity to acquire new land on Ravenstone Road, once an empty field that would become St John's Park.
1997 - A milestone year for the Saints! Floodlights and a seated stand were built on the main pitch, commemorated with a friendly match against Leicester City.
2000/2001 - The team achieved promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the club's history.
2001/2002 - After earning promotion to the Premier Division the season before, the Saints finished as runners-up in the league.
2006/2007 - Heather Athletic, as they briefly became, scaled the ranks, securing another place in the Premier Division and reclaiming their original name at the season's end.
2009/2010 - A stellar season saw the club as Premier Division runners-up, clinching the Leicestershire Rutland Senior Cup, the prestigious Tony Alden Memorial Trophy and the Combination Les James Challenge Cup.
2010/2011 - The club's FA Vase performance reached new heights, making it to the third round, also securing victory in the Leicestershire Rutland Senior Cup and clinching the Midland Combination Premier Division championship title.
2014/2015 - As leagues merged and restructured, the club found itself in Division One of the Midland League, determined to conquer new challenges.
2018/2019 - A triumphant return saw the club winning the Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup for the third time, along with the Division One title, propelling them back to the Premier Division.
2020/2021 - Transferred to the Premier Division North of the United Counties League, the club faced new adversaries and challenges. Like all teams, training was sporadic during the times of Covid19 lockdown, and the league was eventually abandoned.
2022/2023 - A tale of resilience continued as the club weathered a storm both on and off the pitch. A burst water pipe during a freezing December caused devastation to the clubhouse. But in true Heather style volunteers rallied to the cause and the rejuvenation of the entire clubhouse followed.
2024/2025 - The spirit of Heather St Johns remains unwavering, ready for the next chapter on the pitch.
